• What do I need to get a quote from Metalise it…America?

The best way for us to evaluate your part is to send us a .stl file. We evaluate the surface area of the part and can determine how we would run the part through our process.

• What do I have to do to my part before sending it to Metalise it…America?

The type of finish you desire will determine how much prep work needs to be done to your part. For Technical finishes we recommend sanding the part to 240 grit. This will remove any imperfections that would be noticeable in the coating. For High Gloss finishes we recommend that you sand your part to 600 grit wet. This will create a perfectly smooth surface that we can then coat and polish to a brilliant shine.

• What types of RP technologies can Metalise it…America plate on?

SLA, SLS, Objet, FDM, Envisiontech. We have had successes with all of these technologies. Please note that with the Objet technologies, special cleaning procedures as mentioned on the Objet website should be followed closely.

• What is the thickness of the coating that the Metalise it… process puts on the part?

Standard thickness for our process is 100microns or .004”. We recommend that your model be offset by this amount if you are connecting this part to another and need to remain in a certain tolerance.

• What benefits does the Metalise it… processes bring to my RP model?

This process will improve the strength or your RP model by 10times o New fields of application can be explored such as electrical shielding and corrosion resistance.

• What is the lead time to get a part plated by Metalise it…America?

Our current lead-time is 3-5 days.

• What is the cost of the Metalise it… process?

The cost of the process is based on surface area. As a rule of thumb our process will cost 30-40% of the cost of your model. Please contact a Metalise it representative for accurate quotes.
